FAQ
Moving in and fees
Can we tour the home before making a decision?
Yes. Prospective residents and their families are welcome to arrange a tour of Ty Melin before making a decision.
What are the home's fees?
Ty Melin charges the Cardiff City Council rate, which is available on request. Please contact the home to discuss current fees and what applies to your circumstances.
What is included in the weekly fee?
The weekly fee covers 24-hour care and support, accommodation, meals, snacks, drinks and in-house activities.
The cost of outings, transport, entrance fees and special events is paid through the social fund. Residents can make a voluntary contribution to this fund.
Will I receive a personalised care plan?
Yes. A care plan is co-produced with the resident, and where appropriate their family, to discuss needs, preferences, likes and dislikes.
Are there set visiting times?
Visitors are welcome at all reasonable times. We ask visitors to respect residents’ mealtimes and the comfort of others living in the home.
Can I keep my own doctor?
The team will do its best to help residents keep their current GP for continuity, but this is not always possible if a GP practice cannot accept patients outside its catchment area.
Can I bring my own furniture?
Yes. Residents are encouraged to bring small items of furniture, decorations, photographs and personal belongings to help make their room feel their own.
Can I have a trial period?
Yes. New residents can have a four-week trial period at Ty Melin, giving them time to decide whether they would like to make it their permanent home.
Can you cater for specialist dietary requirements?
Yes. The cook can cater for dietary requirements, and there is a varied menu of nutritious, tasty meals.
Can I bring a pet?
Residents are not able to bring a pet to live with them at Ty Melin. Pets may visit, subject to allergies and suitability.
Do you provide a laundry service?
Yes. Ty Melin has an on-site laundry, so clothing can be laundered at the home. We ask that all clothing is labelled when a resident arrives.
Dry cleaning needs to be carried out professionally and is paid for by the resident.
